I was born and raised in India but have spent the past eight years living (and loving) in Italy.
But I'll be honest...
When I first left India my motivation was to escape. I felt stuck in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and I was sick of the chaos, the disorder, the constant whirlwind of stimuli I would eventually grow to miss.
My mind had become incapable of registering any beauty.
At the time Italy was just a romantic, perhaps utopic ticket out. I knew virtually nothing about the country besides to look for the boot-like form on a map and to never, ever utter the word 'ketchup' in public.
And I figured that was enough because I love boots and always hated ketchup. 
That move changed everything. 
I quickly learned why the fashion industry held Italy in such high regard. I studied the value behind the Made In Italy label and began to appreciate the genius behind iconic luxury creations and why certain brands were celebrated. It dawned on me that the merit of luxury garments went beyond the quality of materials and excellence of craftsmanship but extended to the authenticity of the designer, the exclusivity of their inspiration captured. Italian luxury fashion represents a cultural value. 

Sarees have always represented grace, ability and femininity to me. They evoke memories of my grandmothers, effortlessly draped in perfectly pleated sarees, expertly orchestrating processes of the domestic ecosystem. And just beyond, lay the chaos, the disorder, the whirlwind that now represent luxurious cultural value to me.

DESHNA is a showcase of the cross-cultural influences that have shaped me. The brand is a celebration of Indian heritage and marries the rich extravagance of traditional Indian wear with the luxury of Italian fashion. Fusion fashion at its finest. Each piece of every collection is unique and sustainably created and authentic to me. I welcome you to my brand, my world and my love for cultural art. 

Cross-Cultural Couture

The traditional Indian saree is uniquely exquisite. A long, rectangular piece of woven fabric that drapes across the upper and lower body. One end runs plain while the other elaborates rich detail.
